I chose to photograph allotments as an alternative to street photography, a slower, calmer environment to work in. This gave me the opportunity to examine still life rather than a continuously changing situation. Concentrating on small areas of each allotment and composing detailed images of the dilapidation and decay produced a contemplative result that satisfied my need for a change in direction at the time, if only temporarily.
